Friends
In my ongoing study of life, random, obvious-and-yet-not-obvious questions frequently pop up. Sometimes in the middle of the night. Such as now. Okay, question: what makes one person another person's friend? Answer: it is one of those universal mysteries that will never be discovered. No, really, from experience and observation I can attempt a true answer.
Often people will become friends if they share intrests (we have to start somewhere). Or--interestinly enough--because they are so different from each other. Or friendship may begin because one admires something in another. Or shared experiences will knit a bond. Or common beliefs. Or a common goal. Or forced confinement, such as in a classroom. :)
A few days ago in my Mythology class we did yoga (hurrah for yoga! It is a blast!) because we are going to be starting Indian myths. The point is, at the end of the class, we all sat in lottus (half-lottus for some of us--me) and we but our palms together and our instructor bowed to us and we to him, saying a phrase (I forget what) that, translated, means, "The spirit in my body recognizes the spirit in yours." And I thought, "That is beautiful!" That is the ultimate reason that the friendship bond exsists: we see greatness in each other, and in that greatness posibility and comfort.
